UCLA Battles Oregon State to Scoreless Draw in Home Finale

October 29, 2023 | Men's Soccer

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's soccer team drew 0-0 with Oregon State on Sunday afternoon at Wallis Annenberg Stadium on senior day.

The Bruins (7-3-4, 4-0-3) kept a clean sheet for the second match in a row and their third of the season with the 0-0 draw with the Beavers (7-5-4, 4-1-4). The result finished off a doubleheader at Annenberg Stadium with the UCLA women's team, which drew with Stanford 1-1 and earned their 14th Pac-12 title in the process.

With the result, UCLA has now gone unbeaten in its first seven league games of the season. The Bruins and Beavers also drew with the Beavers in Corvallis 2-2 back on October 5th.

UCLA had two efforts either blocked or saved in the 23rd minute. Andre Ochoa had his shot blocked and then 30 seconds later Jose Contell had his effort sent towards the bottom left corner of the net saved by the Beavers goalkeeper. To finish the half off Contell forced another save in the 43rd minute, that forced another save from Oregon State's keeper.

The Bruins kept their foot on the gas to begin the second half and were awarded a penalty kick in the 53rd minute when Andre Ochoa was brought down in the box. However, Tucker Lepley's ensuing penalty kick hit the post and stayed out and the game remained scoreless.

The Beavers had a chance of their own in the 83rd minute but Grayson Doody got in the way of the goal-bound shot and sent the ball out for a corner to keep the Beavers off the board.

UCLA pushed for a game-winning late on in the match with Tre Wright, who saw his effort pushed away for a Bruins corner in the 86th minute. On the ensuing corner Jose Contell's shot was saved by the Beavers keeper and the game finished scoreless.

UCLA hits the road to continue Pac-12 in the Bay Area where the Bruins will take on Cal on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. PT, followed by a match at Stanford at 4 p.m. PT on Sunday.
