Women’s Track and Field Splits Squad for WSU Open, New Mexico Classic

LOS ANGELES – Two Bruins are competing on the road this weekend for UCLA Track and Field.
 
Sophomore Sydney Johnson is looking to complete her second pentathlon of the indoor season on Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Washington State University Invitational. The meet will be hosted at The Podium in Spokane, Wash., on Thursday.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck heads back to Albuquerque, N.M., to compete in the 2023 New Mexico Collegiate Classic.

LAST TIME OUT
 
Johnson claimed first place in the women's high jump event (5'07") at the Dr. Sander Invitational in New York on Saturday, Jan. 28. The sophomore's first-place finish earned 10 points en route to a first-place team finish at the meet (187 total points).
 
Ndjip-Nyemeck placed first in the women's 60m hurdles (1st, prelims – 8.35; 1st, finals – 8:27) at the Dr. Sander Invitational. The hurdler sits sixth all-time on UCLA's indoor top 10 performance list (8.17) with the time she set at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Invitational in Albuquerque on Jan. 23.
 
JOHNSON'S LAST PENTATHLON
 
Johnson finished fourth overall at the Carol Robinson Women's Winter Pentathlon hosted by Kansas State on Friday, Dec. 9.

Johnson started the event strong, sitting in second place after the first two events: 60m hurdles (9.08) and the high jump (1.60m). The sophomore was in a tight race with Annie Molenhouse of Oklahoma State throughout the competition, swapping places on the leader boards throughout the day. Johnson ultimately finished just 62 points behind Molenhouse in the final standings.
