UCLA'S ROAD TRIP CONTINUES AT NO. 10 PURDUE, NORTHWESTERN
The UCLA women's volleyball team heads to the Midwest to face No. 10 Purdue on Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. (PT) before capping the four-game road trip with Northwestern on Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. (PT).
FIRST SERVE
Thursday's contest will mark the third meeting between UCLA and Purdue, with the Bruins leading the all-time series 2-0. The teams have not met since 1981 when UCLA prevailed in five sets. UCLA came out victorious two years prior, grabbing a 2-0 win in December 1979. The Bruins have only faced Northwestern once, earning a four-set win in September 2008.
LAST WEEK'S RECAP
UCLA registered its second victory over a ranked opponent when it won three consecutive sets to take down No. 24 Washington. The Bruins hit .296 collectively against a Washington team that has held opponents to a Big Ten-best mark of .144 on the season. UCLA earned its third road win of the season while handing the Huskies their second loss of the year. It came down to the final set on Sunday night inside a record-setting crowd at the Galen Center, but UCLA was unable to outlast No. 16 USC in a five-set thriller. The Bruins rebounded from a slow start, winning sets two and three to take the lead over the nationally-ranked Trojans. USC managed to regroup and win the fourth set before erasing an 8-5 UCLA lead in the final frame to snatch the victory on its home court.

This week's matches will air on B1G+, the Big Ten Network's subscription streaming platform, which offers access to nearly 2,500 events annually. The Bruins will be streamed on B1G+ at least 10 times this season, with six games scheduled to be televised on Big Ten Network, and once on Peacock. DEFENSE *CLAP CLAP* DEFENSE
The Bruins feature two of the premier defensive players in the Big Ten: Anna Dodson and Peyton Dueck. Dodson is second in the conference with 42 blocks and an average of 1.56 blocks per set during conference play. Meanwhile, Dueck, playing at the libero position, ranks third with 99 digs in Big Ten matches.
OUTSTANDING OLSON
In the win over No. 24 Washington, Olson posted a career-high 21 points, headlined by her 9.5-point display in the third set. She was extremely efficient with a hitting percentage of .483, committing just two attack errors while putting down 16 kills, matching her season-high. Olson was a force at the service line, tallying three service aces, and made a huge impact defensively with five digs and four blocks.
UCLA OFFICIALLY JOINS THE BIG TEN CONFERENCE
UCLA officially joined the Big Ten Conference Aug. 2, ushering in a new era in the Bruins' storied and illustrious athletic tradition. UCLA, along with previous conference foes Oregon, USC and Washington, have moved to an 18-team Big Ten Conference with a footprint spanning from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
UCLA's approaching membership in the Big Ten Conference was initially announced more than two years ago, on June 30, 2022.
"The day has finally come," said Martin Jarmond, The Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics. "After two years of planning and preparation, UCLA is proud and excited to join the Big Ten Conference. I am grateful for the energy and effort that has been put into shaping this pivotal move by our hard-working staff members, as well as our coaches and student-athletes. The investments we have made into our programs and student-athletes over the past 24 months have set us up to continue to compete at the elite level that defines UCLA Athletics."
The Bruins' first home Big Ten Conference match will take place Sunday, Sept. 29 versus Ohio State in legendary Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom at 3 p.m. (PT). The contest will be available for viewing on B1G+.

UCLA was picked to finish eighth out of 18 teams in its first-ever Big Ten Volleyball Preseason Poll, it was announced by the conference office Aug. 1. The Bruins were slotted to finish behind fellow conference newcomers Oregon (6th) and USC (7th). UCLA is coming off a sixth-place finish in the Pac-12 a year ago after a second straight season with a 10-10 conference record. In its history, UCLA has won 10 conference crowns with seven coming as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, two as a member of the Western Collegiate Athletic Association (WCAA) and one as a member of the Southern California Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCWIAC). The Bruins' last conference championship was in 1999 when they posted a 17-1 record.
