UCLA Downs Michigan State for First Home Sweep

LOS ANGELES โย The UCLA women's volleyball earned its first home sweep of the 2024 season with its straight-set victory over Michigan State on Saturday night inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
Set scores were 25-17, 25-19, and 25-22.
The Bruins (10-9, 4-6) hit .353 as a team and led Michigan State (8-13, 1-9) in nearly every statistical category.ย
Setter Audrey Pak facilitated the efficient attack with 42 assists, her personal best for a three-set match.
Posting her second career double-double was junior Grayce Olson. The outside hitter racked up 14 kills to equal the team and match-high while snuffing out a career-high 13 digs in her second-most efficient attacking display of the season at .542.
Junior Cheridyn Leverette extended her streak of matches in double-digits to 18 with her 14-kill performance, while graduate Anna Dodson joined her in double figures, tallying 12 kills on the night.ย
UCLA quickly established an offensive rhythm, connecting on 14 of its first 17 swings to secure the opening set convincingly. Leverette led the charge, successfully converting six of her eight attempts. The Bruins surged ahead with a 5-1 run to open the match and never looked back, building an 18-11 advantage as Leverette, Olson, and A. Dodson benefited from exceptional sets by Pak. Overall, UCLA hit .625 and committed just two attack errors in their first-set victory.
Michigan State briefly rallied for a 3-1 lead in the second frame, but a terrific sequence highlighted pivotal digs by Peyton Dueck and a powerful kill by Leverette shifted the momentum. UCLA responded with a 3-0 run, capped by a Kiki Horne kill, to seize their first lead of the set. Olson and A. Dodson each collected six kills in the second set, sparking a 5-0 run that gave the Bruins a 14-13 advantage after MSU had pulled ahead. UCLA concluded the set with another significant run, hitting .351 as a team to gain a two-set lead over the Spartans.ย

The third set began with a quick run by the visitors, but the Bruins countered with a 4-0 run featuring a massive block from Brooklyn Briscoe and an ace from Kat Lutz to level the score at 8-8. The scoring streak extended to 8-1 with Dodson adding two more kills. Although Michigan State closed the gap to one at 18-17, UCLA finished strong with Horne and Dodson teaming up for a block on match point.ย
UCLA will conclude its homestand against crosstown rival No. 16 USC on Oct. 31. The match will be broadcast on Big Ten Network for the 6:30 p.m. PT first serve.
