WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL HEADS EAST TO FACE RUTGERS AND MARYLAND
The UCLA women's volleyball team is set for an important road trip, facing off against Rutgers (Nov. 7) and Maryland (Nov. 9). Both opponents are currently in the bottom three of the Big Ten standings, making these matches crucial for UCLA's NCAA Tournament hopes. Fans can catch all the action live on B1G+.

FIRST SERVE
  • With starting setter Audrey Pak out due to injury, UCLA's offense struggled in its back-to-back defeats to No. 21 USC and No. 10 Oregon.
  • UCLA is 1-5 in five-set matches.
  • The Bruins are 2-9 against ranked opponents this season.
  • Junior outside hitter Cheridyn Leverette leads the Bruins in points (331.0), kills (311), points-per-set (4.36), and kills-per-set (4.09).

  • Kate Reilly and Kiki Horne are the only Bruins to appear in every match this season.
  • UCLA has 617 digs in Big Ten play, which ranks second on the conference charts.
SERIES HISTORY
UCLA will meet Rutgers for the first time on Thursday night. The Bruins have only faced Maryland once, grabbing a straight-set victory in September 2006.

LAST WEEK'S RECAP
UCLA was unable to win a set last weekend, falling to No. 21 USC and No. 10 Oregon in straight-sets. In the match against the Trojans, freshman Kate Duffey made her first career start, stepping in at the setter position for the injured Audrey Pak. The Ventura, Calif. native notched 31 assists, six digs, two blocks, and one ace. The struggles continued for the Bruins against the nationally-ranked Ducks, hitting a season-low .119 in the defeat.

A NIGHT FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
On Saturday night, Cheridyn Leverette became just the fifth Bruin in the 25-point rally scoring era (2008-present) to earn double-digit kills in 20 consecutive matches. The junior racked up a match-high 16 kills at a .345 clip to pace the UCLA offense against No. 10 Oregon. She also led the team with 15 kills against No. 21 USC.

OUTSTANDING OLSON
Against No. 3 Penn State, Grayce Olson highlighted UCLA's attack with a personal-best 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .279. The junior finished one dig shy of a double-double with nine on the night. Her brilliance continued in the three-game sweep over Michigan State, recording her second career double-double with a match-high 14 kills and career-best 13 digs. This was Olson's second-most efficient attacking display, hitting .542 for the match.

COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH
UCLA is now past the halfway point of the conference schedule. The Bruins are 4-8 in Big Ten play, which places them at 12th in the conference standings. UCLA will play four of its last eight matches inside Pauley Pavilion as it looks to accumulate some important resumé-building wins in the closing stages of the season. The final stretch includes two matchups against ranked opponents:  No. 12 Oregon and No. 7 Wisconsin.

UCLA OFFICIALLY JOINS THE BIG TEN CONFERENCE
UCLA officially joined the Big Ten Conference Aug. 2, ushering in a new era in the Bruins' storied and illustrious athletic tradition. UCLA, along with previous conference foes Oregon, USC and Washington, have moved to an 18-team Big Ten Conference with a footprint spanning from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

UCLA's approaching membership in the Big Ten Conference was initially announced more than two years ago, on June 30, 2022.
"The day has finally come," said Martin Jarmond, The Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics. "After two years of planning and preparation, UCLA is proud and excited to join the Big Ten Conference. I am grateful for the energy and effort that has been put into shaping this pivotal move by our hard-working staff members, as well as our coaches and student-athletes. The investments we have made into our programs and student-athletes over the past 24 months have set us up to continue to compete at the elite level that defines UCLA Athletics."

The Bruins' first home Big Ten Conference match will take place Sunday, Sept. 29 versus Ohio State in legendary Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom at 3 p.m. (PT). The contest will be available for viewing on B1G+.

UCLA PICKED EIGHTH
UCLA was picked to finish eighth out of 18 teams in its first-ever Big Ten Volleyball Preseason Poll, it was announced by the conference office Aug. 1. The Bruins were slotted to finish behind fellow conference newcomers Oregon (6th) and USC (7th). UCLA is coming off a sixth-place finish in the Pac-12 a year ago after a second straight season with a 10-10 conference record. In its history, UCLA has won 10 conference crowns with seven coming as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, two as a member of the Western Collegiate Athletic Association (WCAA) and one as a member of the Southern California Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCWIAC). The Bruins' last conference championship was in 1999 when they posted a 17-1 record.
