No. 13 Women's Tennis Drops Decision to No. 17 Duke

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the first of back-to-back matches against fellow top-20 teams at Ohio State's Ty Tucker Tennis Center, the No. 13 UCLA women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 result against No. 17 Duke Saturday afternoon.
Shavit Kimchi sealed the win for the Blue Devils (6-2), following up efforts by fellow nationally-ranked players Ellie Coleman and Brianna Shvets. The Bruins (2-2) meet the host and 12th-ranked Buckeyes in the weekend's finale Sunday at 11 a.m. PT.
The Court 2 doubles match stayed on serve until Coleman and Emma Jackson broke the serve of UCLA's Kimmi Hance and Sasha Vagramov for a 4-3 advantage. They added another two games later for the 6-3 win and a leg up. An early break by Kimchi and Karolina Berankova and Shavit Kimchi helped them to a 4-2 lead on the top court. Tian Fangran and Elise Wagle answered emphatically for the Bruins, however, taking the final four games to turn all attention toward Court 3.
Shvets and Iuliia Bryzgalova held a one-break edge until UCLA's Bianca Fernandez and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer evened it up for 4-4. Alternating breaks sent the deciding match into a tiebreaker. There, the Duke duo collected the final two points to take the day's first lead.
Each side picked up three singles first sets. The first match to finish was contested on Court 6, where the top-100 matchup of No. 78 Shvets and No. 99 Guichard went to Shvets in straight sets. The 6-2, 6-2 decision gave the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead.
The Duke lead reached 3-0 when No. 74 Coleman outlasted Fernandez by a 7-6(4), 6-3 score on Court 3. A three-set result then went the way of No. 65 Kimchi on Court 2, where she defeated Hance 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the overall victory.
Lutkemeyer and Wagle each seized a first set and was on top in her second set, but neither was able to finish and get the Bruins on the board.
