No. 6 Women's Tennis Blanks Huskies to Earn Indoors Berth

LOS ANGELES โ The No. 6 UCLA women's tennis team controlled its ITA Kickoff Weekend match against visiting Washington from start to finish Saturday, prevailing 4-0 to earn a spot in the upcoming ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Kate Fakih of the Bruins (2-0) was on court for the clinching doubles point and later added the deciding singles victory. Olivia Center and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer also had two-win days. The Huskies (1-1) collected one singles set in a match that was ultimately abandoned.
UCLA jumped out to 4-0 leads on all three doubles courts. The No. 36 pair of Lutkemeyer and Ahmani Guichard carried continued its dominance to the finish, beating Catherine Gagnon and McKenna Koenig 6-0. Then, with the fourth-ranked Bruin pair of Kimmi Hance and Elise Wagle holding a match point of its own, No. 6 Center/Fakih delivered the deciding blow with a 6-3 result over No. 115 Sophie Luescher/Erika Matsuda.
UCLA carried its momentum into singles play, taking each singles first set. Just as she did in the season opener versus LMU, Center on Court 6 was first to finish. She bested No. 104 Carina Syrtveit 6-1, 6-2 for her second victory against a nationally-ranked foe.

Facing off against No. 121 Reece Carter on Court 2, No. 38 Lutkemeyer was last to finish her initial set. The Bruin made quick work of her opponent in the second, however, rolling to her team-high eighth ranked win by a 7-5, 6-1 score.
Finally, with Guichard nearing victory on Court 5, No. 41 Fakih closed out Koenig 6-3, 6-4 on Court 4. For the second time in as many contests, it was Fakih contributing the fourth point.
UCLA will be making its first ITA Indoors trip since 2021. Play begins Feb. 7 in Evanston, Ill. and Urbana, Ill. In the meantime, the Bruins will visit No. 14 California on Saturday, Feb. 1. First serve from Hellman Tennis Complex is set for 12 p.m.
