UCLA Earns No. 17 Recruit Class Ranking from Baseball America

October 03, 2025 | Baseball

LOS ANGELES โ€“ย UCLA's incoming recruit class for the 2025 season was ranked No. 17 in the country by Baseball America on Wednesday.
ย
Head Coach John Savage and his staff have now seen 17 of his 19 recruiting classes ranked inside the Baseball America top-25. The Bruins also boasted the nation's top recruiting classes twice in a three-year span from 2021-23.

"We are very excited about this class and proud of the work our staff has done to put this group of players in position to have impact right away in our program," Savage said.
ย
UCLA's incoming class is headlined by three players inside the Baseball America top-100: Angel Cervantes, Dominic Cadiz, and Zach Strickland.
ย
Cervantes is a right-handed pitcher from Lynwood, Calif., was drafted No. 50 overall by the Pirates and was ranked No. 51 on Baseball America's top draft prospects of 2025. Strickland was tabbed the No. 147-ranked draft prosect by the outlet, and Cadiz was picked in the 15th round by the Brewers and ranked the No. 4 third baseman in California. All three are headed to Westwood to join the 2026 squad.
ย
The Bruins' incoming class is exceptionally deep, blending high-end talent across the diamond with a strong mix of arms and position players. Among the pitchers, UCLA adds pitchers Mack Edwards, Ian Fisher, Will Crain, Hayden George, and Elai Iwanaga, each bringing distinct upside and projectability to the mound.
ย
On the position player side, Aiden Aguayo, Tyler Dunning, Trey Gudoy, and Maverek Russell bolster the Bruins' depth. This balanced group complements the headline recruits and reinforces UCLA's reputation for assembling complete, impact-driven classes.
ย
"With roster caps the way they are, we have to be strategic in our recruiting," Savage continued. "We don't want to overcommit or rely too heavily on the transfer portal and suddenly end up with 45 players. That's a disservice to the athlete."

The highly-touted incoming class reinforces an already formidable UCLA squad set to return eight starters from last year's Men's College World Series team, marking its first appearance in Omaha since 2013.
