Women's Tennis Rolls to 5-2 Win Against Pepperdine

LOS ANGELES โ In action for the first time since Feb. 9 โ and home for the first time since Feb. 2 โ the UCLA women's tennis team secured the first five points en route to a 5-2 win against Pepperdine Wednesday at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Bruins (5-2) gave up four total games in the completed doubles matches before Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer, Kate Fakih, clincher Ahmani Guichard and Kimmi Hance tacked on straight-set singles victories. Duru Söke and Vivian Yang prevailed late for the Waves (4-7).
The Pepperdine pair of Soke and Sebastianna Scilipoti held serve out of the gate on Court 3, but it was all UCLA the rest of the way. No. 59 Guichard/Lutkemeyer took the final six games, improving to 16-6 for 2024-25. The remaining courts saw the Bruins jump out to 5-1 leads before the Waves picked up two games on each.
In the end, it was fourth-ranked Bruins Fakih and Olivia Center on Court 2 who closed out their win. Matched up with No. 39 Anastasiia Grechkina/Alexia Harmon, the all-freshman combination seized its team-leading 19th win by a 6-3 margin and sent its team to singles play with a 1-0 lead.
UCLA collected five first sets in singles play. In a matchup of ranked Court 2 standouts, No. 28 Lutkemeyer doubled up No. 52 Grechkina and never looked back, winning 6-3, 6-1. Lutkemeyer has now bested a team-high nine nationally-ranked singles foes this season. No. 42 Fakih was next to finish, as the freshman pushed her team-high singles win total to 19 with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Scilipoti on Court 4.
Guichard then delivered the clinching point on Court 5. Trailing 3-5 in her first set with Harmon on Court 5, the Bruin won 10 of the final 11 games for a 7-5, 6-1 result. Guichard's deciding victory represented her first this season and third overall.
Hance added to the UCLA total with her best ranked win of the season, a 6-4, 6-4 decision over No. 16 Savannah Broadus on Court 1. The seniors had split two previous singles matches on the collegiate level before Wednesday.
In a back-and-forth contest on Court 6, Soke outlasted Center 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Then, on Court 3, No. 101 Yang overcame No. 49 Wagle 6-7(5), 6-2, 1-0(3) to complete the team match.
The Bruins next travel to San Diego to face off with San Diego State Saturday. First serve from Aztec Tennis Center is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT. UCLA's match at the University of San Diego, previously scheduled for Sunday, has been canceled.
