No. 17 Women's Tennis Falls 4-2 at No. 14 USC

LOS ANGELES โ The 17th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 14 USC in Big Ten Conference action Friday at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium. The Bruins earned the doubles point before being overcome in singles play.
Mayu Crossley had a two-win day for UCLA (9-6, 3-4 Big Ten), but the Trojans triumphed in the other completed singles matches. Eugenia Zozaya clinched the victory. Dani Borruel, Emma Charney and Jana Hossam also prevailed.
No. 33 Olivia Center/Kate Fakih of UCLA rolled to a 6-0 win against No. 48 Lily Fairclough/Krisha Mahendran on the top doubles court to officially kick off the match. The Bruins went established one-break advantages on Courts 2 and 3, but it was Crossley/Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer closing out its match to clinch. The pair earned its third win in as many tries, beating Borruel/Zozaya 6-3 on Court 2.
UCLA claimed four first sets in singles play, but USC began turning those into third sets. No. 46 Crossley held on to her advantage on Court 2, beating Immi Haddad 6-4, 6-2 to make the team lead 2-0.
Charney turned her lost first set into a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 result over No. 119 Fernandez on Court 4. Then, in a top-25 showdown on Court 1, No. 24 Hossam got the better of No. 11 Lutkemeyer in a 6-4, 6-3 display. The Trojans put themselves in the driver's seat when Borruel held off Center 6-1, 6-4 on Court 6. Finally, with the Court 5 contest also in a third set, it was No. 114 Zozaya bouncing back and ultimately outlasting Fakih 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Court 3.
The Bruins will try to rebound Friday, April 3, when Oregon visits Los Angeles Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT.
