IOWA CITY, Iowa – The 22nd-ranked UCLA women's tennis team kicked off its final road trip of the regular season with a 4-2 victory against Iowa in Big Ten Conference action Friday evening at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
Kimmi Hance clinched her team's fourth consecutive win. She also teamed with Elise Wagle to seal the doubles point. Also triumphant for the Bruins (11-7, 6-3 in Big Ten play) in singles play were Kate Fakih and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer. Pia Kranholdt and Nikita Vishwase tallied singles victories for the Hawkeyes (12-7, 6-4).
The doubles duo of Lutkemeyer and Ahmani Guichard won its eighth match in a row, beating Kranholdt and Barbara Pokorna 6-2 on Court 3. No. 19 Hance/Wagle then registered its fourth clincher of the year, outlasting No. 75 Vishwase/Tereza Dejnozkova 6-4 on the top court. Hance/Wagle has now topped eight nationally-ranked pairs in 2024-25.
No. 33 Fakih's third straight singles victory came by way of a 6-1, 6-2 display versus Pokorna on Court 3. Fakih has team highs of 12 dual-match singles wins and 26 total singles victories. Right behind her with 11 and 24 is 19th-ranked Lutkemeyer, who added to her totals with a 6-2, 7-5 performance against No. 113 Dejnozkova. Lutkemeyer is 13-4 opposite nationally-ranked singles players.
Trailing 3-0, Iowa briefly steered momentum in its direction. Kranholdt downed Guichard 7-6(2), 6-3 on Court 5 and Vishwase then knocked off Bianca Fernandez in a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 result on Court 6.
No. 97 Hance would not let the Hawkeyes pull level, however, as she held off Daianne Hayashida 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 on Court 2 to finalize the decision. Hance has clinched two wins on the year.
