LINCOLN, Neb. – The 22nd-ranked UCLA women's tennis team earned its fifth win in a row Sunday, beating Nebraska 4-0 in Big Ten Conference action at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
Kate Fakih earned her third clinching victory in four matches. Also turning in singles wins for the Bruins (12-7, 7-3 in Big Ten play) were Ahmani Guichard and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer. Fakih and Olivia Center teamed for a dramatic doubles comeback, helping to hold off the Cornhuskers (12-10, 2-9) for the initial point.
Nebraska struck first in doubles play, with Maria Taranova and Natalia Trigosso besting Guichard and Lutkemeyer by a 6-2 margin on Court 3. UCLA's 19th-ranked tandem of Kimmi Hance and Elise Wagle had an answer, though, jumping out to a 5-1 lead against Lucy Loy/Ana Zamburek before prevailing 6-3 on Court 1. Cornhuskers Reya Lee Coe and Emma Rizzetto served for the match leading 5-3 versus Center and Fakih on Court 2 before the Bruins mounted their comeback. Four games later, Center/Fakih had increased its team-high totals to 26 total doubles victories and eight clinchers.
UCLA was able to claim all six singles first sets and results were finalized soon after. First to finish was Guichard, who topped Coe 6-4, 6-1 on Court 5.
No. 19 Lutkemeyer picked up her fourth consecutive straight-set win next, taking down Zamburek in a 6-3, 6-3 decision. Lutkemeyer has an 8-1 record playing at the No. 1 singles spot in 2025.
No. 33 Fakih completed the sweep on Court 4, running her own personal winning streak to four. She got the better of Tiziana Rossini in her latest triumph, 6-0, 7-5. Fakih leads all Bruins with 27 total singles wins and 13 dual-match singles victories.
