Pitching Staff Shines in No. 14 UCLA's Triumph Over LMU, 7-2

LOS ANGELES โย Behind an excellent performance by the pitching staff, No. 14 UCLA earned a convincing 7-2 midweek win over LMU on Tuesday night at Page Stadium.

UCLA (33-11, 16-5 Big Ten) took a no-hitter into the seventh inningย and ultimately surrendered just two hits on the evening in an excellent all-around showing from all seven pitchers who toed the rubber.

CJ Bott impressed in his first collegiate start, striking out three batters in two spotless innings. Josh Alger, Ryan Rissas, and Cal Randall (1-2) combined to toss four straight hitless frames to take the Bruins' no-hitter into the seventh.

Justin Lee struck out the side in the seventh before August Souza fanned two of the four hitters he faced in the eighth.

The UCLA staff combined for 14 strikeouts, just one shy of the season-high.

AJ Salgado highlighted the offensive effort by blasting his 10thย homer of the season in his two-hit night at the plate. He becomes the third Bruin to reach double-digit home runs this season.

LMU capitalized on a pair of defensive mishaps by the UCLA defense to push a run across in the third, tying the game at 1-1.

The Bruins regained their advantage when Dean West ripped an RBI single up the middle to score Dugger from second base.

Salgado added to the lead when his opposite-field home run sparked UCLA's two-run sixth inning. Payton Brennan reached on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Logan de Groot came up with a productive at-bat, bunting Brennan over to third. Dugger was the next Bruin to do his job, bringing him homeย with an RBI ground out.
