June 20, 2025 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES โ Sophomore shortstop Roch Cholowsky and sophomore first baseman Mulivai Levu received All-America recognition from Baseball America, announced Friday morning by the outlet.
ย
Cholowsky was named a first team recipient while Levu received third team honors.
ย
Cholowsky and Levu spearheaded UCLA's return to the Men's College World Series for the first time since 2013. The pair guided the Bruins to their most wins since 2019 (48-18) and a share of the Big Ten regular-season title in their inaugural year in the conference.
ย
Cholowsky was named both Big Ten Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Bruin ever to claim both honors in the same season. He's also the first UCLA player to earn conference player of the year accolades since 1998. Cholowsky's standout season continued with national recognition: he became the first UCLA player and the first sophomore to win the Brooks Wallace Award, recognizing him as the nation's top shortstop. He also took home the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove and was named Perfect Game's National Player of the Year. To top it off, he was a finalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and earned First Team All-American honors from the ABCA.
ย
Levu earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors after an impressive season at the plate, tallying 85 RBI which was the second-best mark in the country. One of just two Bruins (alongside Cholowsky) to start all 66 games, Levu hit .320 while launching 12 home runs. He also earned an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove after committing just one error in 569 chances.
ย
Cholowsky led all Division I players with a 6.49 wins-above-replacement (WAR), while slashing .353/.480/.710 with 23 home runs and 74 RBIs. His OPS (1.261) and slugging percentage (.761) in the regular season led the Big Ten, and his 23 homers marked the highest single-season total by a Bruin since 2000. He scored 80 runs, finishing just one shy of Chase Utley's program record from 2000. His 179 total bases now rank second in UCLA history during the Super Regional era. He also broke the school's single-season hit-by-pitch record with 21, before being narrowly surpassed by leadoff man Dean West's 22. Cholowsky was one of only two Bruins to start all 66 games in 2025.
ย
The duo combined for 159 RBIs, the most by a UCLA duo since Troy Glaus and Eric Valent posted 182 in 1997.
