Huang Clinches Share of Individual Title in Japan

MISHIMA, Japan – Sophomore Maye Huang (-5; 66-71) earned a share of medalist honors in the UCLA women's golf team's first event of the season at the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League Tournament at Grand Fields Country Club on Thursday. As a team, the Bruins finished second at -2, 566. Friday's final round was canceled due to inclement weather.

UCLA shot +6, 290 in the second round, dropping one spot behind champion Nihon University (-3, 565). The Bruins led the two other NCAA Division I programs in the 12-team field featuring universities from around the globe. SMU (+18, 586) and Hawai'i (+20, 588) placed seventh and eighth place, respectively. UCLA's performance against both the Mustangs and Rainbow Wahine will count towards the team's head-to-head record, which is used to determine postseason eligibility.
Huang (-5; 66-71) shot an even-par 71 in the second round to rise one spot into a tie for first place with Shio Chaki (Meiji University) and Nagi Kuramochi (Nihon University) at -5 for the tournament. Chaki won the tiebreaker among the three first-place finishers with the lowest 18-hole score in the final round, shooting -3, 68. As a result, Chaki earned an exemption to compete in the JLPGA's Nobuta Group Masters GC Ladies tournament, scheduled to be held at Masters Golf Club in Hyogo, Japan from Oct. 23-26, 2025.
Huang led the 15 competitors from UCLA, SMU and Hawai'i. The next-closest NCAA golfer was Huang's teammate, Angela Liu (E, T-11th). Huang was the only Bruin and one of 20 golfers in the 65-player field to shoot even par or better in the second round.
Liu (E, T-11th) finished just outside the top 10 after recording two birdies and three bogeys to shoot +1, 72 in her second round in Japan. Senior Meghan Royal signed off on another +1, 72 and for a T-16th result at +2.

MISHIMA, Japan – The No. 25-ranked UCLA women's golf team owns a five-stroke lead after shooting -8, 276 in round one of the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League Tournament at Grand Fields Country Club on Wednesday.
Maye Huang opened her sophomore campaign with a career-low -5, 66, besting her previous low mark by four strokes. Huang is one stroke shy of clubhouse leader Nagi Kuramochi of Nihon University (-6, 65).
Three Bruins made their collegiate debuts: GaEun Athena Yoo (T-6th), Kacey Ly (T-16th) and Zoe Sprecher (T-50th [IND]). After bogeying her first four holes, Yoo settled in down the stretch by finishing -5 on her final six and close the back nine with a bogey-free 3. Yoo recorded UCLA's first eagle of the season on the par-4 16th.
Sophomore Angela Liu, UCLA's scoring average leader from last season, is tied for 13th after shooting -1, 70.
Jenny Lee, a sophomore transfer from Baylor, completed her first round in a Bruin uniform with a score of +2, 73. Aside from back-to-back triple bogeys on the par-4 12th and 13th holes, Lee was under par for the day.
