Cholowsky, Gasparino Power No. 1 UCLA to 13-5 Win Over Tulane
February 17, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES โ The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team used multi-home run games from Roch Cholowsky and Will Gasparino to down Tulane, 13-5, on Tuesday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
ย
The Bruins (3-1) broke into double digits offensively for the first time this season, rolling to a convincing win over Tulane (2-2). Cholowsky recorded the fifth multi-homer game of his career, while Gasparino posed the third of his own.
ย
Mulivai Levu enjoyed an excellent day at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a double. Cholowsky and Gasparino also drove in three runs apiece. Cashel Dugger notched his second multi-hit performance of the year, and Dean West, Roman Martin, and Aiden Aguayo each contributed a hit.
ย
On the mound, Zach Strickland (1-0) shined in his collegiate debut. The right-hander from Arcadia, Calif., faced just one batter over the minimum across three scoreless innings, allowing a single hit and striking out two to earn his first career victory.
ย
Tulane struck first, opening the game with three straight hits in its first three at-bats. The third of those found the right-center gap and brought home a pair of runs to give the Green Wave an early 2-0 advantage.
ย
UCLA answered immediately in the bottom half when Cholowsky jumped on a first-pitch fastball and launched it over the left-field wall for his second homer of the season, cutting the deficit in half.
ย
The Bruins then surged ahead with a three-run second inning. Aguayo started the rally by reaching on a hard-hit ball that resulted in an error, and Dugger followed with a single up the middle to bring him home. Gasparino walked, Cadiz reached on a fielder's choice, and Tulane chose to intentionally walk Cholowsky to load the bases. Levu made them pay, shooting a 3-1 pitch back through the middle to plate two more and put UCLA in front, 4-2.
ย
The back-and-forth contest continued in the third, as Tulane answered with two runs on three hits to even the score at 4-4.
ย
Gasparino quickly restored the lead, crushing a two-run homer into the palm trees beyond the left-field wall after Aguayo opened the inning with a single. In the fourth, West led off the inning by beating out a bunt base hit, then Cholowsky followed with his second big fly of the game, smacking a two-run shot over the right-field wall to double the UCLA lead.
ย
Gasparino and West were each plunked to start the bottom of the fifth, then Levu promptly plated both runners with his fourth hit of the day, extending the lead to six runs.
ย
Strickland settled into a groove after relieving CJ Bott to start the fourth, mowing down nine of the 10 hitters he faced to keep the Green Wave at bay.
ย
Tulane got a run back in the seventh when Johnny Elliott launched a solo shot, but the Bruins immediately answered when Roman Martin's two-out, two-strike double dropped down the right-field line to restore the six-run advantage.
ย
Gasparino placed an exclamation point on the victory by belting his second homer of the day, a tower blast that struck the batter's eye in center field.
ย
Justin Lee set Tulane down in order in the eighth, them Jake Swenson closed the door in the ninth to finish off the dominant win.
ย
The Bruins will prepare for their three-game set with No. 7 TCU beginning on Friday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. PT. Friday night's contest will be nationally televised on FS1, while Saturday and Sunday's games will be available on B1G+.
