No. 1 UCLA Blasts No. 7 TCU, 15-5, to Complete Weekend Sweep
February 22, 2026 | Baseball
Gasparino stayed red-hot, belting a pair of long balls for his second multi-homer outing of the young season and pushing his season total to six. Roch Cholowsky added a towering solo shot to match Gasparino at six, giving the Bruins' duo a share of the national lead. Dominic Cadiz joined the power parade as well, delivering his first collegiate home run as part of a back-to-back sequence with Gasparino.
Freshman left-hander Elai Iwanaga (1-0) impressed in his collegiate debut, striking out three of the four batters he faced to earn the win.
TCU struck first in its opening trip to the plate, cashing in on a well-executed first-and-third play to grab the early lead.
UCLA answered emphatically in the bottom of the second, when Gasparino and Cadiz launched back-to-back home runs. Gasparino turned on a 3-2 pitch for a two-run blast, and Cadiz followed by hammering his first collegiate homer, a solo shot to left.
The Horned Frogs punched right back in the third, stringing together three hits to plate a pair and tie the game at 3-3. Ian May was summoned with the bases loaded and promptly shut the door, striking out consecutive hitters to escape the jam.
Cholowsky restored the Bruins' advantage in the home half of the inning, drilling a two-strike pitch off the batter's eye in center for his sixth homer of the year, and his fifth of the week.
TCU pulled even once more in the fifth on Sawyer Strosnider's second home run of the series.
Iwanaga entered with two outs in the fifth and promptly ended the threat with a strikeout. The freshman followed with a flawless sixth inning, finishing his debut outing with three punchouts.
UCLA seized control for good in the sixth when Gasparino obliterated another 400-plus-foot homer, this time a three-run shot, to push the Bruins ahead. UCLA then loaded the bases and added one more when Brennan drew a walk, stretching the lead to 9-4.
TCU's Lucas Franco trimmed the deficit with a solo homer in the eighth, but the Bruins put the exclamation point on the sweep in the bottom half, erupting for six runs to push the margin to 10 and end the game via the run rule. Levu, Martin, Aguayo, and pinch-hitter Espinoza all delivered key knocks during the outburst, powering UCLA's final offensive surge to finish off the sweep on Sunday afternoon.
Jack O'Connor delivered a clean seventh, and Justin Lee followed with a steady eighth, closing out a strong weekend on the mound for the Bruins' pitching staff.
The Bruins will gear up for a Tuesday evening matchup with San Diego State on Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. PT. The game will be available for viewing on B1G+.
