No. 7 UCLA Makes Home Run History in 17-0 Rout of UC Riverside
February 08, 2026 | Softball
LOS ANGELES โ The No. 7-ranked UCLA softball team set a new program single-game record with eight home runs in its 17-0 mercy-rule victory over UC Riverside at Easton Stadium on Sunday, capping a perfect 5-0 opening weekend.
ย
Five different Bruins (5-0) accounted for the eight home runs, led by senior Megan Grant who became just the second player in program history to hit three homers in aย game (Monica Harrison, 2009). Woolery followed two of Grant's blasts with home runs of her own, going back-to-back twice in the first and fourth innings. Her fourth-inning shot marked the Bruins' record-breaking eighth homer of the game.
ย
Grant's first two home runs came in the very first inning. Grant and Woolery recorded the fifth and fourth multi-homer games of their careers, respectively, on Sunday.
ย
Also leaving the yard were true freshmen Bri Alejandre and Jolyna Lamar and sophomore Sofia Mujica. Including her two-homer game against Utah on Saturday night, Alejandre has three round-trippers in her last two contests. Lamar's two-run shot in the first inning marked the first hit, homer and RBIs of her college career.
ย
UCLA jumped Highlanders (1-4) starting pitcher Lauren Mendez for 10 runs just one out into the ballgame. Three Bruins โ Grant, Woolery and Alejandre โ homered within the team's first five at-bats. UCLA went on to homer five times in the first inning; that mark is tied for third-most in NCAA Division I history (most recent: Oklahoma, 2023) and establishes a new UCLA record.
ย
Sunday's historic performance wraps up a remarkable offensive display in Week 1 of the 2026 season. UCLA finished the weekend with five 5-inning mercy-rule wins and the most home runs (23), runs scored (68) and base hits in an opening week in team history. Eight different Bruins recorded at least one home run and there were five separate multi-HR performances over the five games.
ย
This opening week comes on the heels of the 2025 season that saw UCLA set the program record for mercy-rule victories (28) and hit the second-most home runs by a Bruin team (101).
