No. 8 Softball Closes Perfect Week With Mercy-Rule Win Over Oregon State
March 01, 2026 | Softball
FULLERTON, Calif. – The No. 8-ranked UCLA softball team closed a perfect 5-0 weekend with a 13-3 run-rule win over Oregon State at the Judi Garman Classic on Anderson Family Field Sunday.
The Bruins (13-3) rattled off 11 hits and six walks over the five-inning victory, extending their winning streak to 12 games. UCLA has scored 10-plus runs in a team-record six consecutive contests dating back to its 15-7 win over No. 11 Texas A&M at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Feb. 22.
Megan Grant notched her seventh career multi-homer performance and third of the season against the Beavers (9-12). Grant leads the country with 16 total home runs on the season. The senior from San Bruno, Calif. has homered in three straight contests and left the yard five times across UCLA's five games this weekend.
Grant reached base in 17-of-22 plate appearances at the Judi Garman Classic, going 6-for-11 (5 HR) with nine walks and two hit-by-pitches.
Sophomore Kaniya Bragg also had a standout performance going 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. UCLA leadoff hitter Rylee Slimp reached base three times (single, walk and error) and scored a game-high three runs.
The Bruins scored runs in each of the five innings. Bragg opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single through the right side of the infield. Shortstop Aleena Garcia pushed one more across on a sacrifice fly to center field.
Grant's first homer of the day was a two-run shot to center field in the second inning that doubled UCLA's lead to 4-0. Garcia drove in another RBI with a double into the left-center gap before the inning came to a close.
UCLA broke the game open with a five spot in the top of the fourth. Freshmen Bri Alejandre (double) and Jolyna Lamar (single) and redshirt junior Alexis Ramirez (single) each recorded RBI knocks in the inning. The Bruins' final runs of the game came on homers by Grant (2-run) and Bragg (solo) in the fifth.
Senior Taylor Tinsley recorded her ninth win of the year (9-2) with 2.2 innings of relief. Tinsley entered the game in the top of the third with a runner on second and recorded a strikeout and pop out to Ramirez behind home plate to get out of the jam. Bragg, playing second base, saved a run from scoring with a diving stop to her right to limit the batter to an infield single.
After striking out a pair in a smooth fourth inning, Tinsley surrendered two runs on two hits and two walks in the fifth.
Sophomore Brynne Nally started in the circle for UCLA. She allowed one run on one hit and three walks over 2.1 innings.
