No. 8 Softball Shuts Out Wisconsin, 8-0, for Series Win
March 07, 2026 | Softball
LOS ANGELES – Senior Taylor Tinsley pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the No. 8-ranked UCLA softball team to an 8-0 win over Wisconsin at Easton Stadium Saturday night.
The Bruins (20-3, 2-0 Big Ten) delivered the bulk of the offensive damage with the longball as redshirt junior Ramsey Suarez and senior Jordan Woolery each hit three-run homers. With tonight's result, UCLA stretched its winning streak to 14 games and secured the Big Ten series win over the Badgers (14-9, 0-2 Big Ten) in its first three-game set of the conference schedule.
After picking up the win in Friday's series opener, Tinsley struck out five and allowed five baserunners on three walks and two hits across her 5.0-inning outing tonight. She totaled 89 pitches with a game-high 28 coming in the top of the fifth after walking two of the five batters she faced in that frame.
Tinsley's performance marked her third complete-game shutout of the season and 11th of her career.
UCLA scored its eight runs with four spots in each of the first two innings. Rylee Slimp led off the game with a single up the middle on an 0-2 count and Megan Grant drew a four-pitch walk to put a pair of runners on base with nobody out. Sophomore Kaniya Bragg recorded the go-ahead RBI with a single past Wisconsin first baseman Jackie Showalter that put the Bruins up for the remainder of the ballgame. One batter later, Ramsey Suarez hammered a 1-2 delivery with a line-drive shot over the center field wall to give Tinsley a healthy 4-0 lead.
Suarez, who entered the year with just two home runs and 18 RBIs over her previous 67 games played, now has five home runs and 24 RBIs in 2026 alone. The Temecula, Calif. native ranks fourth on the team in runs batted in despite starting less than half of UCLA's games this season (11 starts).
Grant drove in the Bruins' next run in the bottom of the second with an RBI single through the 5-6 hole to score pinch runner Jaella Ann Mercado. Catcher Alexis Ramirez opened the frame with a single into right field off the first pitch she saw. A walk to Jolyna Lamar bumped Ramirez up to second base, who was then subbed out for Mercado.
With two on and one out, Woolery smacked her third three-run homer of the series with a blast out to center field to bring the score to its final tally at 8-0. Woolery cushioned her NCAA lead in RBIs to 50 just 23 games into the season (2.17 RBIs per game). She ranks second on the team behind Grant with 14 home runs.
Grant singled, walked and struck out in three plate appearances, snapping her four-game home run streak.
Wisconsin starter Berritt Herr drew the loss, dropping her record to 7-5. She exited the game in the second inning after surrendering all eight earned runs off six hits and two walks.
