No. 8 Softball Buries Badgers, 16-9, for Series Sweep
March 08, 2026 | Softball
With the win, the Bruins (21-3, 3-0 Big Ten) stretched their winning streak to 15 games dating back to the final day of the Clearwater Invitational on Feb. 15.
UCLA's offense totaled 15 hits, including three home runs from Megan Grant, Alexis Ramirez and Jolyna Lamar. Ramirez's blast marked her second grand slam in as many weeks. She finished the game 3-for-3 with a game-high six RBIs.
Jordan Woolery tied a UCLA single-game record with three doubles in a 4-for-5 performance. The last Bruin to hit three two-baggers in a game was Aaliyah Jordan in March of the 2019 season. Woolery also matched her career high in runs scored with three.
The early portion of the game was a see-saw affair with three lead changes and one tie after the first two innings. UCLA snatched the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the third. Each of the Bruins' first seven batters of the inning reached base. The first of which was Jolyna Lamar, the Bruins' No. 9 hitter, who started the rally with a lead-off jack for her fourth home run of the year. One batter later, Megan Grant hit her NCAA-leading 18th home run of the year with a two-run shot to bring the score to 8-6. Still with no outs, UCLA plated its last two runs of the third on an RBI single up the middle by Ramirez and bases-loaded walk drawn by Aleena Garcia. That was all the Bruins would score as they left the bases loaded.
Facing an 11-6 deficit, Wisconsin battled back in the top of the fourth with three runs to cut the lead to just two. Badger catcher Hilary Blomberg hit a two-run homer out to left field after a lead-off walk drawn by Emily Bojan. Three straight infield singles loaded the bases with no outs for UCLA reliever Taylor Tinsley. She nearly escaped the jam after striking out and inducing a shallow fly out to the next two Badgers she faced. However, Wisconsin's Kaylie Whidden was able to scratch one more run across on a single to shortstop.
UCLA's first three batters of the fourth inning – Grant, Woolery and Kaniya Bragg – all got on base with a hit-by-pitch, double and walk, respectively. Ramirez sent all three Bruins home with a grand slam out to center field to bring the score to 15-9.
Pinch hitter Soo-Jin Berry drove in UCLA's last run of the game with a single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth. Berry finished the weekend 2-for-2 in pinch-hitting opportunities.
Tinsley recorded all three wins in the series. In her outing on Sunday, Tinsley allowed four runs (three unearned), eight hits, three walks and picked up three strikeouts. She improved her record to 12-2 on the season.
