No. 2 Seed UCLA Defeats No. 7 Seed LSU, 3-0

Huntington Beach, Calif. - No. 2 seed UCLA defeated No. 7 seed LSU 3-0 in the Bruins' MPSF Tournament opener at Spiker Beach to advance in the winners' bracket. The Bruins will next play No. 3 seed Texas on Thursday, April 23 at 11am PT.
UCLA won the first set on all five courts to gain early momentum in the match. Maggie Boyd and Sally Perez won the first point for the Bruins on court 1 over LSU's Julia Sprecher and Kenzey McGatlin. After winning the first set 21-12, they fell behind early in the second but went on an 8-1 run to relinquish control and went on to win the second set, 21-13. Court 2 was next to win, with Kaley Mathews and Ensley Alden earning a 21-12, 23-21 victory over Skylar Martin and Tatum Finlason. Alexa Fernandez and Harper Cooper clinched the victory on Court 3 with a 21-19, 21-11 win over Aubrey O'Gorman and Molly LaBreche. Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck were up 22-20, 18-17 on court 4, and Kenzie Brower and Mallory LaBreche were in a third-set tiebreaker on court 5 when their matches were left unfinished.
