Three Solo Homers, Late Rally Lift No. 1 UCLA Past Sacramento State, 5-3
April 25, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete another come-from-behind victory, 5-3, over Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
The Bruins (39-3) fell behind 2-0 after a first-inning two-run shot from the Hornets (19-26), but solo homers from Roch Cholowsky, Mulivai Levu, and Will Gasparino powered UCLA into the lead.
Sacramento State briefly pulled even with a run in the seventh, only for the Bruins to answer with a decisive two-run eighth. Easton Hawk (3-1) recorded the final five outs to secure the victory.
Cholowsky led the offense with a pair of hits, including his 15th home run of the season. Levu added his 12th long ball, and Gasparino extended his team lead with his 18th.
Michael Barnett made his 11th consecutive Saturday start and delivered five strong innings, allowing just two runs on three hits in a no-decision.
After Jakob Poturnak's two-run homer put Sacramento State ahead early, UCLA got on the board in the third when Cholowsky launched a solo shot to left-center. Levu tied it in the fifth with a 410-foot blast to nearly the same spot, and Gasparino's towering drive to right in the sixth gave UCLA its first lead of the day.
The Hornets tied the game in the seventh, but the Bruins responded immediately. Cashel Dugger opened the eighth with a sharp single to left, and Payton Brennan followed with a double off the wall in center. A wild pitch brought home the go-ahead run, and Dean West lined a single to center to score Brennan and cap the two-run frame.
Hawk was clutch for UCLA, striking out two in the eighth to strand a pair in scoring position before firing a perfect ninth to lock down the win.
