May 13, 2026 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. โ Seniors Megan Grant and Jordan Woolery on the UCLA softball team were named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 10 Finalists, the organization announced Wednesday.
ย
Woolery has been named a Top 10 Finalist for a second straight year, while Grant has advanced to the Top 10 for the first time in her four-year career. This marks the fourth time in program history that two UCLA student-athletes have made the cut for the Top 10 in the same season, last accomplished in 2023.
ย
The list of 10 finalists will be trimmed to three on May 18. The winner will be revealed prior to the start of the Women's College World Series.
ย
The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I women's collegiate softball, recognizes the outstanding athletic achievement by Division I female players across the country.
ย
Woolery, the Big Ten Player of the Year, is on pace to become the first player in NCAA history to hit better than .500 while recording at least 30 home runs and 100 RBIs in a single season. She currently owns a team-leading .515 batting average, leads the country with 107 RBIs and ranks third nationally with 33 home runs.
ย
Grant broke the NCAA single-season home run record in UCLA's most recent outing against Nebraska on May 9 with her 38th home run of the year. The record set by Arizona's Laura Espinoza in 1995 stood for 31 years. Grant is also the NCAA leader in slugging percentage (1.345), on-base percentage (.645) and OPS (1.990).
ย
Redesigned in 2017, the Player of the Year trophy symbolizes the prestige of the award in honor of one of the greatest to ever wear the USA Softball uniform โ three-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Lisa Fernandez, whose athletic achievements embody the essence of this prestigious award.
ย
Two Bruins have taken home the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award a total of three times. Rachel Garcia (2017-21) was honored in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019 and Stacey Nuveman (1997, 1999, 2001-02) won UCLA's first award in 2002.
