Senior Mohini Bhardwaj (Cincinnati, OH/Alexander Smith Academy) of the UCLA Women's Gymnastics Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 22-28.
Bhardwaj set a new school all-around record with a total of 39.8 (out of 40) in the Bruins' win over No. 2 Alabama, Cal State Fullerton and Southern Utah Jan. 28. Bhardwaj scored two perfect 10s - on the uneven bars (her first-ever) and on the floor exercise (her third 10 in as many attempts this year). In addition to her all-around, bars and floor wins, she placed first on vault (tied, 9.9) and second on beam (9.9). Her scores helped UCLA record a national-best 197.5 team total and helped the defending national champion Bruins maintain the No. 1 ranking.
With four perfect 10s in five meets this season, Bhardwaj now holds the school record for most career 10s, most 10s in a season and most 10s in a meet (two, tied with Jamie Datzscher). She is currently ranked first nationally in the all-around (39.642 avg.) and floor (10.0 avg.), third on vault (9.881 avg.) and sixth on bars (9.906 avg.).
This is Bhardwaj's second consecutive student-athlete of the week honor and the fourth of her career.
