Compiled a 2.70 ERA in 18 relief appearances over two seasons at UCLA...recruited as a shortstop and earned a redshirt as a true freshman in 2008...was not on the team in 2009...served as a right-handed relief pitcher in 2010 and 2011...selected in the 47th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim...also was chosen in the 46th round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

2011
Made 11 relief appearances...recorded a 1.59 ERA, totaling five strikeouts and three walks in 11.1 innings...did not record a decision and finished the season sixth on the team in pitching appearances...did not allow any earned runs until his final appearance of the season - produced a span of 10.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run...recorded a season-high two strikeouts in one scoreless inning of a 9-0 victory against Pepperdine (Feb. 22)...threw two scoreless innings, scattering two hits, in relief during UCLA's 10-0 win at Pepperdine (May 3)...recorded one strikeout in 1.1 hitless innings at UC Riverside (April 5).

2010 (summer)
Made 12 relief appearances for the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Baseball League...went 0-3 with a 6.92 ERA and one save in 13.0 innings...recorded six strikeouts and six walks...Anchorage went 23-33-1 overall, finishing fourth in the Alaska Baseball League's final standings.

2010
Made seven relief appearances...posted a 5.06 ERA, recording three strikeouts and no walks in 5.1 innings...threw one scoreless inning, notching two strikeouts, in his collegiate debut during UCLA's season opener against Southern (Feb. 19)...threw one scoreless inning against Oregon (April 17)...tossed one scoreless against USC (May 15).

Four-year varsity baseball letterwinner at Tesoro High School under head coach Rick Brail...selected in the 46th round of the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim...went 3-3 with two saves and a 2.81 ERA in 37.1 innings as a senior (2007)...recorded 24 strikeouts and 10 walks that season...at the plate, posted a .349 batting average as a senior, totaling 15 RBI, 14 runs and 14 walks...prior to the 2007 season, was named one of the "Top Players to Watch in the South Coast League" by the Orange County Register...participated in the Orange County High school Baseball All-Star Game as well as the South Coast League vs. Century League All-Star Game...earned All-South Coast League honors as a senior...went 3-5 with a 2.02 ERA in 42.1 innings as a junior (2006), recording 27 strikeouts and six walks...batted .318 as a junior, notching 11 doubles and 17 RBI in 27 games...went 1-1 with a 2.72 ERA as a sophomore (2005), totaling nine strikeouts and two walks...as a sophomore and junior, was named one of the "Top Underclassmen to Watch" by the Orange County Register...played for the Los Angeles Elite in the "Slumpbuster" National Tournament in Omaha, Neb., during the 2006 College World Series; helped lead his team to the semifinals and posted a .600 batting average with 10 RBI, five doubles and six stolen bases...also played for the Kansas City Royals scout team and on the South County Renegades Connie Mack team...as a freshman at Tesoro High, helped the varsity baseball team advance to the CIF Championship...also played football in 2007, competing as the varsity team's starting quarterback in his first year of high school football; played basketball as a freshman and sophomore...earned academic recognition on Tesoro's Honor Roll in each of his four years....named the "most athletic" student at Tesoro his senior year.
