LOS ANGELES - Despite taking game one 5-2, the top-ranked UCLA softball team dropped only its third contest of the season in game two, falling to No. 18 Oregon 5-2, as the two teams split the Pac-10 doubleheader Saturday at UCLA's Easton Softball Stadium.

Prior to Oregon's game-two victory, UCLA (50-3; 17-3 Pac-10) was unbeaten at home this season and had a 20-game unbeaten streak at Easton Stadium dating back to last season. With the game-two win, Oregon improves to 36-21 overall and 7- 12 in Pac-10 play.

With the Bruins down 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth of game one, third baseman Julie Adams ignited a four-run Bruin rally with her leadoff home run to tie the score at two apiece. Christie Ambrosi added a two-RBI double later in the inning and eventually scored on an Amanda Freed single that put the Bruins up 5-2.

Freed, normally UCLA's game-two pitcher, got the start in game one on Saturday, due to an injury to Bruin ace Courtney Dale, who owns a 25-0 overall record. In the 5-2 Bruin victory, Freed surrendered 11 hits and two runs, while striking out eight Oregon batters. She is now 22-2 on the year.

With Freed pitching in game one, UCLA started Stephanie Swenson on the mound in game two. Similar to the first game however, Oregon managed an early lead again in game two, taking a 5-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the fifth. The Bruins got on the board in the bottom of that inning on a Lyndsey Klein RBI- single and then cut the lead to 5-2 on her second RBI-single of the game in the bottom of the seventh. However, with two outs and runners on second and third, Oregon pitcher Connie McMurren got Bruin power hitter Stacey Nuveman to ground out to end the game.

Additional standouts for the Bruins today included, Lupe Brambila, who was 3-for-4 at the plate, adding six putouts in right field. Pitcher Erin Weiler came to throw the final two innings of the day, holding the Ducks scoreless and allowing just one hit.

The Bruins will be in action again tomorrow as the No. 8 Oregon State Beavers visit Easton Stadium for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
