Final Stats

LOS ANGELES - In the first of three scheduled matchups between UCLA (32-3, 4-1 Pac-10) and Arizona (36-3, 5-0 Pac-10), the Wildcats posted a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at Easton Stadium, capitalizing on a big second inning where Arizona posted three hits and all three of their runs. For UCLA, junior pitcher Keira Goerl struck out nine despite taking the loss.

All three of Arizona's runs were scored in the second inning, as the Wildcats batted around and capitalized on a walk and a Bruin defensive error. The rally started with one out in the inning when Goerl walked Wendy Allen. Lisha Ribellia reached on an error and first baseman Shelly Schultz recorded the first RBI of the day with a single through the right side of the Bruin infield. Singles by Crystal Farley and Autumn Champion followed, each scoring one run.

UCLA's lone hit of the day came in the bottom half of the second inning, when Emily Zaplatosch lined a single to center field that hopped off of the outfield fence before being fielded by Arizona's center fielder.

The top two teams in both national polls will face off again on Sunday afternoon at Easton Stadium at 1 pm Pacific Daylight Time.
