The seventh-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated visiting Stanford Thursday night in Pauley Pavilion.

The Bruins won 30-28, 22-30, 30-21, 30-28 in 110 minutes in front of 402 fans. The victory raised the Bruins' overall record to 8-6, 3-4 in MPSF play. Stanford fell to 3-10, 2-7.

Despite allowing the Cardinal to hit .358 for the match and getting out-blocked 11-8, the Bruins gutted out 74 kills to the visitors' 66 and served three aces to Stanford's one. The Bruins also rallied from a three-point deficit late in Game 4 to clinch the match.

Senior Damien Scott reclaimed his starting job by pounding out 17 kills (.324) to go along with two total blocks and an ace. Junior Paul George also recorded 17 kills (.387). Redshirt freshman Jamie Diefenbach returned from a knee injury to start the match. He recorded four kills and three total blocks in two games of action. Senior middle blocker David Russell added 14 kills (.417), an ace and two block assists. Senior setter Dennis Gonzalez started and recorded 35 set assists, but Matt Wade came on in relief to add 23 assists, three kills (.600) and one block assist.

Seniors Ben Reddy and Chris Ahlfeldt had the hot hands for Stanford. Reddy led both teams with 27 kills (.500) and Ahlfeldt added 11 (.476) and a match-high seven total blocks. Clayton Williams and Matt Ceran each recorded 12 kills.

The Bruins will host Pacific on Fri., Feb. 17 in Pauley Pavilion. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
