
UCLA Sweeps Pacific

The seventh-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated the University of the Pacific Friday night in Pauley Pavilion. The victory was UCLA's 22nd straight in the series against UOP.
The Bruins won 30-25, 30-25, 30-26 in 81 minutes before 480 fans. The victory raised UCLA's overall record to 9-6 and leveled their MPSF mark to 4-4. Pacific fell to 4-9 overall, 2-7 in league play.
On Friday night, the Bruins dominated the visiting Tigers by out-blocking them 11.5-3.0 and by connecting on 52 kills (.462) to UOP's 47 (.240). UCLA recorded more digs, 29-23. Each team served three aces.
In Game 3, the Bruins trailed 11-10 when senior David Russell came to the line and served four straight points to give UCLA a 14-11 lead. The Bruins never trailed again.
Junior Steve Klosterman led UCLA with 17 kills (.538) and four block assists. Senior Damien Scott added 12 kills, two aces and a pair of block assists, and junior Paul George contributed 11 kills (.643) and three block assists. Russell recorded seven kills (.375), seven total blocks and an ace. Senior setter Dennis Gonzalez recorded 45 set assists and two block assists.
Senior Brian Adamson and freshman Joe Forbes led the Tigers with 12 kills apiece.
Next week, the Bruins travel to UC San Diego on Feb. 24 and to Long Beach State on Feb. 25. The Bruins return home Mar. 1 to host Pepperdine. On Mar. 3 they host UC Irvine.
