Bruins Extend Streak against UCSD

The seventh-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated UC San Diego for the 41st consecutive time Friday night at RIMAC Arena in LaJolla, Calif.
The Bruins won 30-26, 30-22, 30-14 in 90 minutes. UCLA's third straight victory raised its overall record to 10-6, 5-4 in MPSF play. Div. II UC San Diego fell to 1-13, 0-10.
Trailing 22-24 late in Game 1, the Bruins outscored the Tritons 8-2 to put away the game and turn around the momentum. UCSD committed four unforced errors and the Bruins managed a pair of kills during the stretch run.
In Game 2, the Bruins jumped out to a 21-11 lead on the strength of a .412 hitting percentage and coasted to an eight-point margin.
The Tritons led early in Game 3 and were tied at 9-9 before the Bruins outscored them 21-5 to complete the sweep.
Junior Steve Klosterman enjoyed one of his best games of the season, slamming 16 kills with just one error and hitting .652. Klosterman also recorded two of UCLA's three aces. Senior Damien Scott added nine kills, followed by six each from junior Paul George (.455) and senior Nick Scheftic (.556). Senior setter Dennis Gonzalez recorded 32 set assists while directing an attack that hit .360 for the night.
The Bruins won the battle at the net, 9.5-1.0 and were not aced.
Mike Reuter led the Tritons with 11 kills (.308).
After a road match against sixth-ranked Long Beach State Saturday night, the Bruins return home to face Pepperdine on Mar. 1 and UC Irvine on Mar. 3. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
