UCLA (3-0) cruised in all facets of Thursday's showdown, sweeping doubles play before winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Both teams agreed before the match that they would play out all matches in singles and doubles. Following its sweep in doubles, UCLA went ahead 2-0 when Chanelle Van Nguyen failed to surrender a game against Andrea Crespo at court No. 2, winning 6-0, 6-0. Kaitlin Ray followed suit at court No. 5, losing just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Anna Romeka.
Kelly Shaffer got the clinching win for the Bruins at the No. 6 spot when she downed Lisa Piller, 6-2, 6-1 to give UCLA a 4-0 lead. Wins by Catherine Harrison (court No. 4), Kyle McPhillips (court No. 3) and Robin Anderson (court No. 1) capped off the 7-0 victory.
UCLA now turns its attention to one of the biggest events of the season next week, as the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors takes place from Feb. 6-9 in Charlottesville, Va. The Bruins will be one of 16 teams to take part in the event. More information about the Indoors can be found HERE.
