No. 1 Women's Tennis Upset by Georgia at National Team Indoors

After going through the entire 2014 season without dropping the doubles point, UCLA found itself in unfamiliar territory on Saturday, as it was the Bulldogs who were able to grab a pair of victories in doubles to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The highlight for UCLA in doubles came at the top position, where No. 1-ranked Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips cruised to a 6-1 win over Lauren Herring and Ellen Perez.
In singles, Georgia (5-2) was able to get another point on the board rather quickly when Caroline Brinson notched a 6-0, 6-2 win over Bruin freshman Kristin Wiley at court No. 6.
UCLA's first point of the day came at the No. 4 spot, as 79th-ranked Kaitlin Ray downed 83rd-ranked Silvia Garcia, 7-5, 6-2. The two teams would then trade victories, with Georgia's Ellen Perez upsetting third-ranked Chanelle Van Nguyen, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at court No. 2, and Bruin junior Kyle McPhillips downing Kennedy Shaffer, 6-3, 7-6(2) at the No. 3 spot.
McPhillips' victory cut the lead to 3-2 with two matches remaining on court. Second-ranked Robin Anderson was in a third set with Herring at court No. 1, and freshman Terri Fleming was also in a tight one against Hannah King at court No. 5. Fleming, who cruised to a 6-1 first set win over King, couldn't hold on in the end, falling 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 ending the match 4-2 in favor of Georgia.
UCLA (4-1) played Saturday's match down two starters, as sophomore Jennifer Brady did not make the trip due to injury, and Harrison was pulled following doubles, also due to injury.
UCLA will play a consolation match in Virginia on Sunday. The opponent and time have yet to be determined.
