The top-ranked men's volleyball team (6-0, 3-0) posted its sixth-straight victory to open the season recording a sweep at Cal Baptist (3-3, 0-3) on Wednesday night in MPSF action. Scores of the match were 27-25, 25-21, 25-12. Oliver Martin and Mitch Stahl topped the UCLA attack with seven kills each. The Bruins were outhit .262 to .279, but outserved the Lancers 11-0 on the night, with freshman Micah Ma'a tallying three aces.

UCLA opened up a 4-1 lead in the early stages of set one. Cal Baptist came right back to close to 5-4. The Bruins went up 10-7 after a kill by Michael Fisher and 15-11 following a Martin kill. The Lancers answered to climb within 16-15 before a Fisher kill, a Hagen Smith kill and an ace by Fisher made it 19-15. CBU came back to even the score at 25-all, but kills from Smith and Stahl ended the set at 27-25.

The Lancers began set two by taking a 2-6 advantage. UCLA narrowed the gap to one, at 9-10 after an ace by Stahl and then went ahead 15-14 on an ace by Ma'a. A kill by Ma'a put UCLA in front 20-19. The Bruins led 23-20 thanks to an ace from Jackson Bantle and a Jake Arnitz blast finished the set off at 25-21.

The Bruins took a 7-3 lead to begin set three and led 10-6 after kills from Martin and Arnitz. UCLA steadily pulled away and led 16-8 after a kill by JT Hatch and 18-9 following a kill by Christian Hessenauer. Dylan Missry teamed up with Martin and Hessenauer on a block for a 23-11 cushion. Missry fired a kill off the block for the 25-12 win.

Ma'a finished with eight digs and six kills. Arnitz added six kills and seven digs. Hatch had five kills and Smith totaled 16 set assists and five digs.

The Bruins, off their best start since a 7-0 beginning to the 2005 season, will next play #15 USC on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion. Tickets will be available at the gate. The match will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
