CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Sophomore Brianna Tautalafua recorded a pair of singles and scored a run for the fourth-ranked Bruins, but UCLA dropped a 2-1 decision to #1 Florida State on Sunday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic II.
 
The Bruins (13-3) had just five hits from four different players. In the circle, redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia (6-3) struck out eight in a complete-game effort. She gave up two runs, six hits and three walks. Garcia had a 1-2-3 inning in the first and struck out a pair in the second and fourth frames.
 
Florida State (14-1) got on the board in the second on an RBI single by Dani Morgan. In the fifth, an RBI double by Alex Powers made it 2-0 Seminoles.
 
The Bruins got the run back in their half of the fifth thanks to a two-out rally. Tautalafua led off with a single to left, senior Gabrielle Maurice added a single to left and sophomore Zoe Shaw singled up the middle to bring in Tautalafua to make it 2-1. However, those three baserunners for the Bruins equaled their total in the other six innings, as they fell to Florida State by a run.
 
The Bruins travel to the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton next weekend. The action starts on Thursday with a matchup against Michigan at 7:30 p.m.
