Bruins Drop Ducks, 4-1

EUGENE, Ore. โ The No. 20 UCLA Bruins moved over .500 in the early Pac-12 season Friday, when it recorded a road victory at No. 35 Oregon, 4-1. The Ducks' lone point came on Court 6 in singles play, where UCLA's Kristin Wiley was forced to retire following the first set. Alaina Miller clinched the overall match for the Bruins on Court 3.
The Bruins (8-5) made quick work of the Ducks on the doubles courts, as the UCLA team of Gabby Andrews and Miller breezed past the duo of Marlou Kluiving and Julia Eshet, 6-1. Then, shortly thereafter, the pair of Ena Shibahara and Kristin Wiley dispatched Oregon's Nia Rose-Daniela Nasser, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point for UCLA.
Singles play began inauspiciously for UCLA, as Wiley was forced to retire on Court 6 after she dropped the first set to Nasser, 6-1. The Bruins on the remaining courts were able to pick up the fallen junior, though. Jada Hart dropped just two games on Court 4 against Eshet, who she defeated by a score of 6-0, 6-2. With the lead regained, Andrews posted a straight-set win of her own, a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Kluiving of Oregon (8-6) on Court 5.
With an opportunity to clinch, Miller capitalized, as the sophomore held off Oregon's Rose, 6-4, 6-3. The Bruins will have two weeks off before their next match, a Friday, March 31 visit to Washington. Play at the Bill Quillian Tennis Stadium will begin at 1:30 p.m. and be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
