Bruins Dispatch Huskies, 4-1

SEATTLE -- The No. 20 UCLA Bruins moved to 3-1 in Pac-12 play Friday, as they defeated No. 35 Washington on the road, 4-1. Gabby Andrews posted the clinching point for the Bruins, who also improved to 9-5 overall.
UCLA jumped out on Washington early in doubles play, as the Bruin team of Ena Shibahara and Kristin Wiley remained unbeaten as a duo with a 6-2 victory over Katarina Kopcalic and Lana Slavica on Court 3. Then, in a matchup of ranked teams, the No. 22 pair of Terri Fleming and Jada Hart moved to 8-0 overall (4-0 in dual-match play) with a clinching 6-3 win over the Huskies' No. 39 team of Nour Abbes and Miki Kobayashi. The doubles win was the fifth in a row for the Bruins (9-5, 3-1).
The Huskies (13-5, 2-2) battled back to begin singles play, as No. 111 Kobayashi defeated the Bruins' Alaina Miller in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. The sense of urgency picked up for the Bruins on the top two courts, as No. 3 Shibahara and Fleming each followed up 6-3 first sets with a 6-0 second set. Shibahara defeated No. 118 Stacey Fung on Court 1, while Fleming dispatched Abbes on Court 2.
With the clinching point within grasp, Gabby Andrews stepped up against Washington's Alexis Prokopuik. Andrews, who had won six of her last nine decisions, continued her winning ways with a 7-5, 6-0 victory on Court 5 to clinch the match for the Bruins.
The Bruins will have a day off before returning to play against the Washington State Sunday. Action at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts will begin at 10:00 a.m.
