Bruins Sweep Utah, Run Streak to Six

LOS ANGELES – The No. 20 UCLA women's tennis team posted its sixth straight conference win Saturday, as it defeated Utah, 4-0, at Sunset Canyon Tennis Courts. Alaina Miller posted her third clinching point in five matches for the Bruins.
UCLA (12-5, 6-1) improved on its flawless Pac-12 doubles record with wins on Courts 1 and 3. Kristin Wiley and Ena Shibahara recorded the first win of the day with a 6-1 decision over the Utes' Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa and Alexia Petrovic on Court 3 to set the tone. Then, for the fourth time in a row and fifth time in six matches, the 23rd-ranked pair of Jada Hart and Terri Fleming clinched the match's first point. The duo defeated Margo Pletcher and Taylor Calton of Utah, 6-3. Hart-Fleming is now 7-0 in Pac-12 play and 11-0 overall. Combined, the three doubles teams fielded by the Bruins Saturday are now 20-0.
In singles play, No. 2 Shibahara extended the Bruin lead to 2-0 and her winning streak to seven with a straight-set win over Pletcher on Court 1, 6-1, 6-1. On the next court over, Fleming quickly followed the freshman's lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Brianna Turley to put the Utes (7-8, 2-6) on the brink of elimination. Miller ultimately gave the Bruins their second sweep in as many days, as the sophomore dispatched Jena Cheng on Court 4, 6-2, 6-2.
The Bruins, who have won three consecutive road matches in conference play, will look to improve on that mark when they visit Arizona on Friday, April 14. Play against the Wildcats will begin at 1:30 p.m. (PT). Arizona State will host the Bruins a day later.
