Holmes Leads Bruins in Day One at Don Kirby Invite

Holmes wins high jump and places seventh in the long jump.

The Bruins won one event and finished second in another in the first day of the Don Kirby Invite in Albuquerque, N.M., while the distance squad competed in two events at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.

Isaiah Holmes won the high jump and finished seventh in the long jump. Holmes was efficient in the high jump competition, making his first attempts at 2.07m and at 2.12m. His winning jump of 2.12m (6-11.50) tied his season-best mark. Michael Burke earned a ninth-place finish with a clearance of 1.97m (6-05.50). In the long jump, Holmes jumped 7.40m (24-03.5).

Justin Stafford finished second in the men's weight throw with a toss of 19.11m (62-08.50).

Lillianna Hebert placed ninth in the women's high jump, clearing 1.68m (5-06.00). Mikella Lefebvre-Oatis also cleared 1.68m but finished 13th.

The Bruins had two Top 15 finishes in the men's pole vault, as Reed Scale placed 13th with a clearance of 4.90m (16-00.75) and Michael Fancey was 15th with a clearance of 4.75m (15-07.00).

Jasmine Stauffacher-Gray placed 14th in the 400m dash, clocking in at 56.76. Ratanya Washington was 43rd with a time of 59.38.

Tyler Asemota and Damion Marshall made their season debuts in the 200m dash, clocking in times of 22.34 and 22.54, respectively. Darnell Roberson also raced in the 200m dash and finished in a time of 22.24.

UCLA had two runners in the Top 40 in the women's 200m dash, with Meleni Rodney placing 18th (24.38) and Schuyler Moore 40th (24.90).

Bruin distance runners raced at the Husky Classic. Junior Robert Brandt finished 12th overall and seventh among NCAA competitors in the 5000m run with a time of 13:53.18, which ranks third all-time at UCLA. The women's distance medley team of Cassandra Durgy, Jelvon Butler, Kelly Bernd and Christina Rice placed seventh overall with a time of 11:48.59.
