College Station, Texas – Four Bruins competed on Day 1 of the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday, with two UCLA shot putters each in the men's and women's competitions.
Junior Ashlie Blake led the way for UCLA with a seventh-place finish in the women's field. Her throw of 17.07m (56-0.00) was good for two points. Alyssa Wilson, the only freshman in the women's final, finished 14th overall with a mark of 15.51m (50-10.75).
The men's shot put saw redshirt freshman Nate Esparza and junior Dotun Ogundeji go 12-13. Esparza threw 18.79m (61-07.75), while Ogundeji went 18.54m (60-10.00).
The Bruins will finish their 2018 indoor campaign with Jessie Maduka's national title attempt in the triple jump at 1:30pm PT. The WatchESPN livestream of Day 2 of the Championships will begin at 2:00pm PT.
