Bruin Cross Country Caps Pac-12 Championships

The UCLA cross country program competed in the Pac-12 Championships on Friday afternoon, and the women raced to a fifth-place finish, while the men took sixth overall at the Stanford Golf Course.

Pacing the women all season long, Erika Adler clocked a time of 20:09.51 to finish 13th, while Christina Rice (20:39.19) and Claire Markey (20:58.52) took 25th and 35th, respectively. UCLA finished with 158 points, topping Oregon State (173), Utah (191), Washington State (249), Arizona State (250), Arizona (251), California (277) and USC (376).
"I'm really proud of the women," said assistant coach Devin Elizondo. "That's a big step up from last year. Erika [Adler] was just outside the top 10, so we're really proud of that effort there. And with Christina [Rice], we had two in the top 25."

Colin Burke was the highest finisher on the day for the Bruins, just missing all-conference and finishing 11th with a time of 23:15.7. Garrett Reynolds followed at 25th with a mark of 23:40.2, followed by Cole Smith (29th, 23:47.3) and Carter Blunt (37th, 24:01.8). The Bruins compiled 145 points and took down California (196), Arizona (213) and Arizona State (241).
"I'm pleased with the men," said Elizondo. "We had Colin [Burke] at No. 11, and I don't know if there's a tougher spot to be in, but it was a great run."
