No. 15 Bruins Fall to No. 19 Cowgirls, 4-2

LOS ANGELES โ The No. 15 UCLA women's tennis team dropped its first home match of the season Wednesday, as No. 19 Oklahoma State came from behind to secure a 4-2 win at Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins won the doubles point and the first singles match before the Cowgirls responded with four straight victories.
The Court 3 team of Alaina Miller-Ena Shibahara got things started for the Bruins in doubles play, dispatching Megan McCray-Shir Hornung easily, 6-2. In a top-25 battle on Court 1, No. 19 Vladica Babic-Sofia Blanco of Oklahoma State squeaked past No. 22 Terri Fleming-Jada Hart in a tiebreaking 13th game, 7-6(4).
That left it up to the team of Abi Altick-Ayan Broomfield on Court 2, where the Bruins rebounded from trailing 3-5. The tandem ran off the four games, in fact, giving them the match and UCLA the doubles point.
For the third match in a row, No. 118 Miller made quick work of her Court 6 opponent to secure the first singles point. Miller lost just one games, defeating Hornung by a 6-1, 6-0 score.
That was when the Cowgirls turned it around, as local product No. 74 Megan McCray defeated No. 41 Hart in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to get Oklahoma State on the board. In another ranked matchup, No. 96 Marina Guinart followed McCrary's lead with 6-4, 6-4 victory over No. 104 Fleming on Court 4. Then, on the top court, No. 38 Babic knocked off No. 8 Shibahara, 5-3, 6-4, to put the Bruins on the brink of elimination.
Altick was off to a great start on Court 3, where she topped Katarina Stresnakova of the Cowgirls in a tough first set, 7-5. Stresnakova turned it around, though, taking the next two sets and the clinching win, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
The Bruins will return to action Sunday with a Pac-12 showdown with No. 20 Oregon at Los Angeles Tennis Center (noon). The match will be part of a reunion weekend, which will celebrate the 2008 NCAA championship-winning Bruins, as well as legendary UCLA coach Bill Zaima.
