LOS ANGELES -ย Redshirt junior Rachel Garcia picked up two wins in the circle, struck out 23 in 11 2/3 innings and produced the walk-off winner in Saturday's nightcap, as the second-ranked Bruins defeated BYU, 8-2, and Liberty, 4-3, at Easton Stadium.

Against BYU (10-11), Garcia went the distance, striking out 12 in a five-hitter. She allowed two runs (one earned) and one walk. Garcia struck out the side in the first, fifth and seventh innings and had 1-2-3 frames in the third, fourth and sixth.

At the plate, the Bruins (19-1) had nine hits from seven different players, as senior Taylor Pack and freshman Colleen Sullivan both recorded two-hit games.

The Cougars got on the board in the top of the second on a solo homer, but the Bruins took the lead with two in the third. With one out, junior Bubba Nickles hit her seventh homer of the season to left field to even the score. Redshirt sophomore Aaliyah Jordan followed with a walk, moved to second on an error and scored on a Sullivan double to right-center to make it 2-1 UCLA.

BYU evened things up in the fifth on an unearned run, but UCLA scored six times in its half of the inning, all with two outs, to break it open. With one out, Jordan and Garcia each singled, with freshman Anna Vines coming in to run for Garcia. One out later, senior Brianna Tautalafuaย singled to right-center to score Jordan to put the Bruins up 3-2. Senior Zoe Shaw would triple high off the wall in center to plate Vines and sophomore Alana Snow, who was running for Tautalafua, to extend the lead to 5-2. After sophomore Kinsley Washington reached on an error, allowing Shaw to score, Pack belted her third homer of the season, a bomb to left, to increase the margin to 8-2.

In game two against Liberty (15-8), Garcia tossed 4 2/3 innings of relief, fanning 11 and giving up just three hits and a run to improve to 9-0 on the season. The last nine outs of the game she recorded in the fifth through seventh innings were via the strikeout, as she also fanned two in the third. Sophomore Holly Azevedo started and gave up two runs (one earned), four hits and a walk in 2 1/3 innings.

The Bruins (20-1) produced 11 hits at the plate from seven different players, as Jordan had three hits and Garcia and Nickles posted two apiece.

UCLA scored first in its initial at-bat, as Jordan doubled home Nickles, who reached on a fielder's choice.

The Flames went ahead with two in the third and one in the fourth, but the Bruins would score one in both the fourth and fifth innings to even things up. In the fourth, Garcia led off with a double and came home on a Pack single. An inning later, Nickles led off with her second homer of the doubleheader and eighth of the season, a shot to right-center, to tie things at three.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Bruins wasted no time walking things off, as Jordan knocked a one-out double to left-center and came home on a Garcia double to right-center to give UCLA the 4-3 victory.

The Bruins will complete their weekend on Sunday at the campus of Long Beach State, taking on Boston U. at 11:30 a.m. and the host 49ers at 2 p.m. Both games will feature free live audio on UCLABruins.com.
