Fayetteville, Ark. – UCLA Track & Field saw its first action of the 2021 season on Friday at the Arkansas qualifier, with the team coming away with an event victory and strong performances across the board.
Junior Shae Anderson headlined the Bruins' showing in Fayetteville, taking the 400m victory with a time of 52.67, tied for fourth-fastest in the nation this season. Anderson followed her individual feat with an appearance on the 4x400m relay squad, as Anderson, Pierre-Webster, Chinyere Okoro, and Catherine Leger combined for a time of 3:36.65 and second place overall. The Bruin men took first in their heat and third overall in the 4x400m, clocking a time of 3:14.82.
Okoro and Leger would join fellow sophomore Maddy Doane as the three Bruin women who qualified for the 60m final. Okoro (7.54) and Doane (7.57) went 4-5, while Leger took seventh overall with a time of 7.64. Sophomore Christian Grubb (6.98) and redshirt freshman Cristian Moore (7.01) qualified for the final in the men's 60m, finishing fifth and seventh overall, respectively.
Senior Jacob Wilson led the way for the UCLA throwers Friday, taking second place overall in the shot put with a toss of 17.57m (57-07.75). Freshman Dayne Gordien took seventh in his UCLA debut, posting a mark of 15.89m (52-01.75). The women's shot saw sophomore Natalie Ramirez finish sixth, going 14.28m (46-10.25) in her first meet donning the four letters. Ramirez also appeared in the weight throw, where she finished ninth.
Senior Kyle Brown was the Bruins' top finisher in the pole vault, as he cleared a personal-best 5.06m (16-07.25) for fifth place overall. Fellow senior Tate Curran also cleared 5.06m, but finished tied for sixth place on attempts.
Senior Harrison Schrage made his season debut in the long jump, finishing sixth with a leap of 6.68m (21-11.00). Senior Isa Videler took eighth in the women's competition, posting a mark of 5.69m (18-08.00). Videler also toed the line in the 400m and ran a leg in the 4x400m relay for the Bruins' second team. Freshman Sophia Hartwell made her UCLA debut in the long jump and finished 12th overall.
Freshman Zaylon Thomas made his UCLA debut in the high jump, finishing third with a clearance of 1.95m (6-04.75). Fellow debutants Liam Anderson (52.47) and Aiden Lieb (53.30) went 17-18 in the men's 400m.
