No. 3 UCLA Coasts to 17-3 Win Over LIU

ANN ARBOR, Mich. --ย No. 3 UCLA (8-0,ย 1-0ย MPSF) coasted to a 17-3 win over LIU (2-2) atย the Michigan Invitational on Sundayย morning atย Michigan's Canham Natatorium.ย This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Bruins were led by senior Katrina Drake and freshman Grace Myers, each with hat tricks. It was the third hat trick of the year for Drake and the second for Myers. Senior Maddie Musselman, junior Abbi Hill and freshman Molly Renner added two goals apiece.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Georgia Phillips got the start in the cage and went the distance, registeringย 10 saves while allowing three goals. She also tallied one steal.
Paola Dominguezย led the Sharks with twoย goals on 13 shots while goalkeeper Julia Zebak registered eight saves while surrendering 17 goals.
PERIOD ONE
> UCLA outscored LIU 5-1 in the opening period.
> Musselman got the Bruins on the board first with a penalty shot conversionย (7:43).
> Drake scored back-to-back goals (7:29 and 7:04) and the Bruins led 3-0 before the first minute was in the books.
> Hill made it 4-0 with a power play goal (6:14).
>ย Renner ended the scoring in the first with a goal from the front court (3:28).

PERIOD TWO
> The Bruins outscored the Sharks 3-0ย in the second period.
> Musselman scored her second of the game when she converted another penalty shot (3:27).
>ย Myers followed with a power play goal (2:38).
> Sophomore Malia Allen also hadย a power play goal (0:58) to end the scoring in the second quarter.
> UCLA led 8-1 at the break.

PERIOD THREE
> The Bruins dominated the third period, outscoring LIU 5-0.
> Drake completed her hat trickย (6:58) to make it 9-1.
> Sophomore Anneliese Millerย scored her first of the game on a penalty shot (5:58).
> Redshirt sophomore Alex Perosย found the back of the netย (4:02) to extend the lead to 11-1.
> Myers added her second of the game at even strength (3:12) off a feed from freshman Emma Lineback.
> The Bruins would score again (0:02) on a goal fromย Rennerย to end the scoring in the period with UCLA taking a 13-1 lead into the final quarter.
PERIOD FOUR
> The Bruins outscored the Sharks 4-2ย inย the fourth period to provide the 12-6ย final score.
> Junior Fiona Kuesis scored her first of the game on a power play (7:38).
> LIU would post a second goal of the game (6:58), but Hill would immediately answer with her second of the contest (6:44) to make it 15-2.
> After another goal by the Sharks (5:59), freshman Nicole Strussย netted her first of the game (4:54).
> Myers would complete her hat trickย (4:04) off a feed from Renner to end the scoring at 17-3.
