UCLA Track and Field Men, Women Place First at Dr. Sander Invitational

NEW YORK – The UCLA track and field teams placed first at the Dr. Sander Invitational on both the men's and women's side after completing day two at the Armory in New York, N.Y., on Saturday.
The Bruins broke two indoor school records and had 12 all-time top 10 performances on the day.

TRACK EVENT RESULTS
Ronan McMahon-Staggs broke the indoor school record for the one-mile race with a 3:57.81. McMahon-Staggs also clocked a 3:41.83 in the men's 1500m race, good for fourth in the meet.
The 200m race saw top-five finishes on both the men's and women's sides. Makenzy Pierre-Webster (23.89) placed second in the race and jumps into seventh all-time for UCLA indoor performances; John Robinson IV placed fifth after running a 21.84.
Myles Misener-Daley had another all-time performance this weekend, this time in the 400m race. Misener-Daley ran a 47.20 (2nd place) in Saturday's race, which puts him seventh on UCLA's all-time list. Aly Conyers (2nd – 54.77) and Naomi Johnson (5th – 55.58) finished in the top five in the women's 400m.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Antoni Nortje, Willington Wright, Misener-Daley and Ismail Turner claimed another first-place finish with their 3:10.69 on Sunday. That ranks ninth all-time for the Bruins in indoor competition. The women's 4x400m relay race saw two Bruin squads in the top three: Aly Conyers, Naomi Johnson, Makenzy Pierre-Webster and Sonia Virk crossed in 3:39.49 for second place. Kate Jendrezak, Rose Pittman, Maddy Doane and Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck combined for a 3:41.49 that put them in third place at the meet.
The UCLA women placed first and second in the 800m race: Rose Pittman (1st – 2:06.34) finds herself third all-time in indoor performances, and Jendrezak (2:08.63) took home silver in the race. Jai Dawson (1:51.12) placed third in the men's 800m.
The women's side took home four of the top five spots in the one-mile race: Gwyn George (1st – 4:45.29), Ashley Johnson (2nd – 4:47.63), Angelina Shandro (3rd – 4:50.45) and Kaho Cichon (5th – 4:54.19). George now sits at seventh all-time for UCLA.
FIELD RESULTS
Freshman Michael Pinckney is making his presence felt in the weight throw competition. Pinckney threw 72'04.25" on Saturday for a first-place finish and a new indoor school record. Kris Emig (60'10.75") also placed fifth in the event.
The Bruins claimed first and second in the women's high jump event as Sydney Johnson and Jordan Robinson both completed their 5'07" jumps. Aaron Kim placed third with a PR of 6'10.75" on the men's side.
Camryn O'Bannon placed first in the men's long jump, improving on last week's all-time top 10 finish with another big performance. The freshman leapt 25'02" in Saturday's event, placing him firmly in fourth place all time.
Ka'Leila Abrille and Katerina Adamiec both completed 12'09.5" attempts in the women's pole vault competition, good for second and third place in the event.
Jade McDonald PR'd in the women's triple jump, leaping 40'00" for a fifth-place finish.
Mayyi Mahama improved on last week's weight throw performance with another all-time top 10 placement, throwing 67'01.5" on Saturday for a first place finish. Lyvante Su'emai PR'd in the women's weight throw event with a 60'07.75" (3rd place).
UP NEXT
The Bruins split squads next weekend to compete in two meets. A set of UCLA track and field student-athletes head to Spokane, Wash., to compete at the Washington State University Invitational hosted at The Podium from Thursday, Feb. 2, until Saturday, Feb. 4. The Bruins will also compete at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M., at the Albuquerque Convention Center from Feb. 3-4.
