UCLA Gymnastics Debuts 2025 Team at Meet the Bruins
December 14, 2024 | Gymnastics
LOS ANGELES - The UCLA Gymnastics team offered a sneak peek of the 2025 season Saturday afternoon at the annual Meet the Bruins event at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. Fans were treated to exhibition performances by the Bruin gymnasts, including Pauley debuts by the freshman class and an Olympic encore for gold medalist Jordan Chiles.
The Bruins started the event appropriately with a stuck Yurchenko full vault from leadoff queen Emily Lee. UCLA showed off 10.0 start value vaults from Brooklyn Moors, Katelyn Rosen, Mika Webster-Longin and Macy McGowan, as well as Chae Campbell's dynamic Yurchenko full.
UCLA's highlights on uneven bars included a sensational debut by freshman Sasha Fujisaka, the return of the Bhardwaj by Frida Esparza, and the long-awaited return of sophomore Sydney Barros, who saw action for the first time since tearing her ACL a year and a half ago.
Balance beam saw standout routines by Campbell, who introduced a new flight series of backhandspring/two-foot layout; Webster-Longin, who combined dynamic skills and exquisite form; and Rosen, who hit each element and finished with a flourish on a stuck 1.5 dismount and soccer kick celebration.
UCLA ended with its renowned floor party, which saw new routines from Rosen, Lee, Emma Malabuyo, Moors and Campbell, debut floors from McGowan and Webster-Longin, and a final farewell to her Olympic floor routine by Chiles, who began her first day back with the Bruins on Saturday.
The Bruins will begin the 2025 season on Saturday, Jan. 4 against California and Oregon State in Oceanside, Calif. Details on the meet will be announced shortly. UCLA's home opener will be Saturday, Jan. 25 against Illinois. Season tickets for the Bruins' home meets are on sale now at uclabruins.com/tickets.
