LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women's volleyball team celebrated senior night at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial with a straight-sets victory over Rutgers.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-16, 25-23.
UCLA (15-11, 9-7 Big Ten) received a huge 16-kill (.364) performance from senior outside hitter Cheridyn Leverette to take down Rutgers (11-17, 2-14 Big Ten) and earn a crucial Big Ten Conference victory.
The Bruins closed the match on a 6-1 scoring run after Brooklyn Briscoe knocked down a pair of kills to clinch the win for her team. Briscoe finished with five kills and three blocks on the night.
Maggie Li turned in her third straight double-double and fourth in the last five matches after racking up 10 kills and a season-high 12 digs. Marianna Singletary tallied six kills and five blocks.
At the setter position, Kate Duffey dished out 31 assists and leading the back row was libero Lola Schumacher who registered a team-high 15 digs.
UCLA started strong in set one, taking a 5-2 lead behind two kills from Leverette and an ace from Duffey. Leverette connected on three of her first four swings, while Briscoe added a pair of kills to push the margin to 12-7. Rutgers stayed within reach thanks to Rugters' Zora Hardison recording five kills on seven attempts, but Leverette answered with a back-row slam and a deft tip to give the Bruins a 20-16 cushion. Li capped a 3-0 run with a kill to extend the lead, and Leverette closed the frame with her seventh kill to secure a 25-18 win. The Bruins hit an impressive .455 in the set, with Duffey running the offense efficiently and dishing out 14 assists.
Leverette carried the momentum into set two, striking for two quick kills before Rutgers responded with a 3-0 run to edge ahead 6-5. The teams traded points until UCLA strung together a 3-0 burst for a 13-10 advantage. A pivotal 4-0 run, highlighted by a powerful Leverette back-row swing, gave the Bruins separation at 19-12. Leverette finished with six more kills in the frame as UCLA hit .344 en route to a 25-16 victory and a two-set lead.
Set three saw UCLA jump ahead 6-3 after a Duffey dump kill and a big swing from Anastasija Ivkovic. Rutgers answered with an 8-0 run to seize a 21-17 lead, but Li stopped the surge with a side-out kill. With Kat Lutz at the service line, the Bruins mounted a 5-0 run that flipped the score to 23-22. A challenge overturned a call in Rutgers' favor to tie the set at 23, but consecutive Scarlet Knight errors handed UCLA match point. Briscoe delivered the final kill to seal the sweep.
UCLA will host Illinois on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. (PT) inside Pauley Pavilion for its final home game of the 2025 season. The match will be broadcast nationally on FS1.
