March 23, 2026 | Softball
ย
The Bruins (28-3, 9-0 Big Ten) battled strong winds and temperatures in the 30s to extend their winning streak to 22 games and record their 20th run-rule victory of the season. UCLA topped 10 runs for sixth straight game and was one hit shy (17) of tying its season high set in Game 1 of the series.
ย
UCLA run-ruled Rutgers (16-15, 3-6 Big Ten) in all three games, marking the second straight conference opponent the Bruins have swept via run rule (Michigan State). UCLA's 9-0 start in conference play is its second-best opening stretch since 2022, when it won 10 straight in the Pac-12 Conference.
ย
The Bruins homered three times in the second inning of Monday's win with homers from Aleena Garcia, Alexis Ramirez and Bri Alejandre, who hit a grand slam for her fourth dinger of the series. With Garcia and Ramirez's homers, all nine spots in UCLA's lineup recorded at least one home run over the three-game series.
ย
Alejandre'sย blastย marked UCLA's 100th home run and ninth grand slam of the season. The Bruins have surpassed 100 home runs in a season twice before โ 108 in 2010 and 101 in 2025. UCLA is averaging 3.22 home runs per game in 2026, nearly doubling its previous single-season record of 1.77 set in 2010.

Alejandre finished 3-for-5, with each hit driving in a run, totaling a career-high seven RBIs. She is the third Bruin to record seven RBIs in a game this season, tied for the third-most in program single-game history.
ย
Senior Jordan Woolery added a career-high-tying six RBIs, going 3 for 3. Each of her three singles drove in two runs. Woolery strengthened her NCAA lead in RBIs to 68.
ย
Leadoff hitter Rylee Slimp also went 3-for-3 and scored a career-high four runs. Senior Megan Grant recorded two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored, extending her streak of reaching base to 31 games this season and 39 consecutive games dating to last year's NCAA Regionals.
ย
UCLA led comfortably for most of the game, but Rutgers trimmed a nine-run deficit to 11-6 with a four-run fourth inning. Reliever Sydney Somerndike loaded the bases with a walk, single and hit-by-pitch. She then issued consecutive walks, forcing in two runs. Freshman Natalie Cable entered and walked in another run before striking out the next two batters to end the inning.
ย
The Bruins pushed the game back into run-rule territory with four runs in the sixth. A walk to Jolyna Lamar and hit-by-pitches to Slimp and Grant loaded the bases with two outs for Woolery, who delivered her third two-run single of the game. After an infield single by Kaniya Bragg, Alejandre added a two-run double down the left-field line into the corner to cap the scoring at 17-6.
