Alejandre’s Late Homer Lifts No. 6 UCLA Past No. 25 Washington, 7-5
April 24, 2026 | Softball
The Bruins (42-5, 17-2 Big Ten) surrendered a 5-1 lead after the Huskies (34-13, 15-4 Big Ten) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Sophi Mazzola delivered a bases-clearing, three-RBI double to cut UCLA's lead to one. The next batter, Kaycie Burdick, tied the game with an RBI double down the right-field line before being thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.
Aleena Garcia sparked UCLA's seventh-inning rally with a two-out infield single up the middle. Alejandre followed and, on a 2-2 count, drove her second home run of the night to left field. She now has 19 home runs this season, one shy of tying the UCLA freshman record of 20 set by Stacey Nuveman in 1997.
Starting pitcher Taylor Tinsley secured her 16th complete game of the season by retiring the Huskies in order in the bottom seventh against the 2-3-4 hitters. She capped her outing by striking out Jadyn Glab looking for her fifth backward K and eighth total strikeout of the game, tying a season high. Tinsley improved her record to 24-3 on the season.Bri Alejandre's second home run of the night gives us the lead!!!!!!!!!!

Senior Megan Grant further etched her name in UCLA history, breaking the program's single-season home run record with two round-trippers. She sent the first pitch she saw of the game into the center-field bleachers for her 32nd home run, surpassing Nuveman's previous record of 31 set in 1999. The solo shot gave UCLA its first lead of the night.
Grant added a second home run to lead off the third inning, a blast that landed atop the batter's eye in center field. Her 10 career multi-home run games are tied for second-most in program history with Maya Brady, trailing only Nuveman (12).
Alejandre's first home run came in the fourth inning, extending UCLA's lead to 3-0. The Alhambra, California, native finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Tinsley limited Washington to one hit — a bunt single — through the first three innings. The Huskies put runners in scoring position for the first time in the fourth with back-to-back, two-out singles, but Tinsley ended the threat by striking out Gabi Toney looking.
Washington got on the board with a solo home run to center by freshman Mila Reddy, the first of her career.
UCLA left three runners in scoring position across the second and third innings. Alexis Ramirez delivered an RBI single to center in the fifth, bringing home pinch runner Jaella Ann Mercado for UCLA's first hit with RISP.
